14 TREES LTD is a joint-venture company established by LafargeHolcim and CDC, the UK’s Development Finance Institution owned by DFID. The objective of 14Trees is to accelerate the manufacturing and commercialization of innovative construction solutions for Affordable Housing, targeting the huge housing needs of the low to middle-income class. Currently, the company is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of Industrial Machinery Technician- 3D Printer Operator (Malawi) who will be based in Lilongwe. As part of its expansion across Africa, 14Trees is currently operating in Malawi, Kenya and Zimbabwe, with its headquarters in Switzerland. 14 Trees Malawi is also a sister company to Lafarge Cement Malawi, owned by LafargeHolcim.


The successful applicant will be reporting to the 3D Project Lead. He/she will operate and maintain large industrial equipment used in the Construction Industry. The ideal candidate should have CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operating experience as well as thorough working knowledge with CAD software and/or experience operating and servicing large industrial machinery. Oversee their progress along the way in a timely and cost-effective manner, and will be responsible for budgeting, organization, implementation and scheduling of the projects.


  • Complete all tasks as required to run and maintain our Industrial Machinery
  • Assist supervisor with daily tasks
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns;
  • maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs when needed
  • Maintain a running inventory of materials used and tests performed with associated data
  • Track completed builds as well as material waste due to failed builds
  • Maintain machine build schedule, prioritize test operations and provide projected completion date of projects
  • Complete projects by assisting project team; attending and participating in group and project meetings
  • Maintain up to date knowledge with innovative construction technologies both through research and by participating in educational opportunities surrounding construction methods and materials

  • Minimum 2+ years of CNC operating experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with CAD/CAM software
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or career experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be well organized and task oriented with the ability to operate effectively on multiple deadlines
  • Experience using multiple slicing software packages and a working knowledge of G-, T-, and M-code languages is a plus
  • Experience as a service mechanic for large construction equipment a plus

He/she will report to the Project Lead based in Malawi. The candidate should be a strong team player and will have a dotted reporting line to the 14Trees Kenya General Manager for the missions related to our Kenya business.
