Job Description

Founded by a diverse group of leaders, the Industrial Crops Association (ICA) provides world-class educational and market development resources, research, networking opportunities to unify the voice of Industrial Crop Farmers to actively engage in critically important advocacy efforts.

The mission of the ICA is to contribute to the economic and social development of Malawi by promoting cultivation and research in industrial crops. The ICA envisions a situation where high value industrial crops will be able to provide alternative livelihoods for small scale farmers and also provide opportunities for larger entities in cultivation, value addition and marketing locally and internationally. Some crops which hold promise in this regard include industrial hemp; medical cannabis; essential oil plants and herbs; various indigenous herbs and plants with medicinal or other value; tree and forestry cash crops.

Since 2014, ICA through its membership has thus far been at the forefront of research and lobbying for Hemp in Malawi. ICA was formally registered in 2018 and through its membership that includes INVEGROW, Malawi Mangoes and Pyxus, have continuously worked with the Malawi Government, Parliamentarians, DARS, the Media and many other stakeholders in the legislation and research of Hemp in Malawi. It is from the back bone of this success and the tremendous interest Hemp has generated, that ICA with offices located at Synergy Complex in Lilongwe, seek to recruit a full time Administrator.


Position: ICA Administrator


JOB SUMMARY


The ICA Administrator reports to the Board and is responsible for the success of ICA. Together, the Board and Administrator assure ICA’s relevance to the community, the accomplishment of ICA’s mission and vision, and the accountability of ICA to its diverse constituents. The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the administrator and he/she has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board and ICA constitution. The Administrator provides direction and enables the Board to carry out its governance functions.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management and administration
    • Provide general oversight of all ICA activities, manages the day-to-day operations,
      assuring smoothly functioning, and efficient organization.
    • Assure program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation.
    • Recommend staffing and financing to the Board of Directors.
  • Fundraising
    • Ensure that ICA is well and sustainably resourced through vibrant resource mobilization strategies
    • Oversee the fiscal activities of the organization including budgeting, reporting and audit.
    • Assure an effective fund development program by serving as the chief development officer or hiring and supervising individuals responsible for this activity.
  • Member relations
    • Responsible for recruiting and managing all Member relations.
    • Facilitate the integration of ICA into the Industrial Crops Farmers community by using effective marketing and communications channels or activities.
    • Act as an advocate, within the public and private sectors, for issues relevant to ICA, its services and constituencies.
    • Serve as spokesperson for ICA, by assuring proper representation of ICA to all stakeholders.
    • Work with legislators, regulatory agencies, volunteers and representatives of the notfor-profit sector to promote legislative and regulatory policies that encourages and addresses the issues relevant to ICA.


REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Should have a minimum of a Diploma in Agricultural related field, Business Administration or related Social Sciences with more than 10 years’ work experience in a senior management position or BSc. in Agriculture, BSc in Business Management/Administration or related Social Science with a minimum of 5 years work experience in a senior management position.
  • Strong resource mobilization ability, budgeting, financial and risk management experience.
  • Strong human resource management experience, including diverse teams, field offices, and international consultants.
  • Proven track record of leading organizational strategy and development.

  • Ability to communicate complex information for a range of audiences, both in written reports and through presentations
  • Ability to develop high quality proposals and budgets
  • Fluent written and verbal English and spoken Chichewa
  • Strong ability in MS Office, particularly excel
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial reports
