Job Description

COMSIP Cooperative Union Limited is a member owned organization with a national footprint. It is a secondary cooperative, registered under the Cooperative Societies Act 1998. COMSIP works with rural and peri-urban community groups that are owned, managed and controlled by members themselves and its main thrust is building a culture of savings and investment among ordinary Malawians in a quest to improve livelihoods.

COMSIP is an implementing agency in the Malawi Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project (MSSRLP), a government of Malawi project supported by the World Bank.

With funding from the World Bank through the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC) COMSIP therefore intends to use part of the funding to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, and result oriented project staff for the following posts to be based in Lilongwe and Mzuzu.

Position: Human Resources Officer

The successful applicant shall report to the Finance and Administration Manager (FAM).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate development and implementation of HR strategies
  • Continually review and implement HRM policies include among others; worker compensation, attendance, leave administration and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
  • Facilitate review of Condition of Service and Code of Conduct
  • Develop, manage and monitor HR budgets
  • Maintenance of HR records and regularly update the database
  • Ensure Employee occupation health and safety management (Implementation OHS policies, monitoring and communication)
  • Management of employee welfare (Pension, employee health insurance, among others)
  • In liaison with FAM carryout Recruitment, selection and placement of best talents
  • Coordinate performance analysis for the organization through Performance appraisal of staff on an annual basis and recommend for staff development and rewards.
  • Prepare contracts for staff
  • Evaluating training requirements for staff.
  • Develop training plan based on the needs assessment and ensure that all members of staff, new and existing, within the departments are trained.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • A minimum Bachelor Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology or any relevant field
  • A member of Any HRM Association in Malawi or CIPD or equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ human resource generalist working experience in HR function
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Labour laws and Labour Union activities
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent counselling skills.
  • Adequate knowledge and adherence to Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
