Job Description

JWL is searching for a qualified and resourceful HR & Accounting generalist to support the administration responsibilities to ensure a smooth and efficient local operation. The Generalist will focus on the local running of JWL operations in Malawi. This supporting role will assist the local and Global management team with various HR, financial and administrative duties. The Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, helping JWL to plan and administer important functions, such as staffing, payroll, general accounting and bookkeeping. This position is on a part-time basis.


Position: HR & Accounting Generalist 


Objectives of this Role

• Assist in developing and executing personnel procedures and policies
• Participate in the development of HR objectives, including metrics, queries, and standard reports for ongoing organizational requirements
• Coordinate payroll and administering payroll related taxes
• Ensure legal compliance of local regulations and applicable employment laws, and update policies and/or procedures as required
• Filing financial records, reconciling bank statements with the general ledger, updating, and maintaining accounting databases, and processing backups
• Perform routine clerical accounting duties within a fast-paced finance department, while adhering to established accounting standards
• Assist in year-end audit requests and execute accurate reporting and filing, as required

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

• Prepare paperwork and facilitate smooth new staff onboarding process
• Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding, including entering data into HR information systems for payroll and auditing for accuracy and compliance
• Coordinate payroll processing, including monthly updates to staff files, pay, tracking vacation/sick pay and importing expense reimbursements
• Assist in the communication and upkeep of local staff policies, directory and contributes to the development of policies
• Be a resource for accounts payable and receivable, as well as assist with year-end audit reports
• Execute accurate reporting, filing, and database management
• Verify and post details of local operational transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and totals accounts to ledgers and databases
• Process journal entries and reconcile bank statements in comparison to general ledger
• Prepare consolidated internal and external financial statements by analysing information from the general ledger system
• Match, batch, and coding vendor invoices
• Prepare financial summaries and provide reports to management on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
• Keep staffing and financial information confidential

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource, business, finance, accounting or a related field
• Additional 2 years of Human Resource training or finance experience
• Proficiency with mathematics along with solid knowledge of finance and accounting principles
• Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, ethics, and cultural awareness as well as strong attention to detail
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office and comfortable learning new technical systems as needed
