HIV Counsellors & Educators

Job Description

Médecins Sans Frontières, (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian organization working together with the Ministry of Health in Chiradzulu district on HIV program. MSF-FRANCE is recruiting suitable candidates for the position of:

Position: HIV Counsellor & Educator 1 full-time & 2 casual position based in Chiradzulu 

The HIV/TB project of MSF France in Chiradzulu is looking for HIV Counsellors & Educators to join their Patient Support Team. This team provides a range of mental health & psycho-social support services to people living with HIV/TB. The HIV Counsellor & Educator provides counselling support and education to people living with HIV who attend clinical appointments at the Health Facilities in Chiradzulu and at our Saturday Teen Club. 

General Duties: 

  • Provide quality HIV counselling and educational services to patients and their caregivers in order to enhance their adherence to medical treatment 
  • Facilitate group education programs for adolescents living with HIV and other identified groups 
  • Mentor and train peer educators 
  • Provide educational health talks to MSF cohort and other identified groups. 

Contract Details: 

  • 12-months contract renewable, including three months’ probation period 
  • Intended start date: Beginning of November 2019 
  • Working hours: 07:30-16:30 Tuesday to Saturday, occasionally on Mondays and public holidays as flexibility is required. Schedule determined by management 

Required work experience 

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in a counselling position 
  • Work experience with people living with HIV 

Highly desirable 

  • Work experience with MSF or another international NGO 

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma 
  • Fluent in Chichewa and English
