Institutional Background

Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego has been working in Malawi since 1999 implementing a wide - range of interventions in maternal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Current projects include facility and community-based HIV testing services, and HIV prevention

Jhpiego intends to recruit suitable and a qualified staff for the vacant positions below:     


Post: HIV Clinical Mentor (1 post) Zomba/Cobbe Barracks 



The Clinical Mentor is responsible for ensuring clinicians, nurses and health care workers providing comprehensive HIV care and treatment, including HIV testing services, care, treatment, & support; sexually transmitted infection diagnosis and treatment, TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and support for sexual and reproductive healthcare, provide care that is in alignment with current guidelines and evidence-based practice and standard operating procedures. S/He will oversee facility-based activities, ensuring facility performance meets expectations, and Government of Malawi and donor targets. S/he will instigate initiatives to ensure that facilities staff have the capacity to sustain quality services.


Required Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competencies


  • Bachelor’s degree in health (nursing, or equivalent);
  • Minimum 6-7 years’ clinical work experience in ART, PMTCT and pediatric HIV care, TB and STI with increasing responsibilities;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as clinical mentor in HIV care and treatment programs in Malawi;
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of Malawi’s healthcare systems and solid experience of working in Malawi and understanding of the country context in particular within the HIV programming context;
  • Working knowledge of designing and implementing complex HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs, with evidence of progressively increasing responsibilities;
  • Experience and demonstrated ability working on donor funded projects;
  • Experience of supervising, supporting and coaching staff. Clinical training skills are an advantage.
