Job Opportunities have arisen at National Economic Empowerment Fund Ltd (NEEF) for core positions in the Executive Management as follows:-

Head of Operations

The position is tenable in Lilongwe and is available Immediately. Ideally the Board of Directors is seeking services of mature, ambitious, professional Malawian Nationals with passion for results and respect for ethics. National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) seeks the services of a dynamic energetic microfinance professional or a retail banker with outstanding record of managing operations, business development, and customer acquisitions in a large business whose primary undertaking is to serve the customers at the bottom of the economic pyramid. The ideal candidate is expected to be a mature self-motivated individual with strong ethical standards A team player and change agent suits the position better In summary the job involves the following.

National Outreach Programme management

  •  Establish a rational branch network across rural Malawi wan focus on provision of financial services through digital and linkage channels
  •  Lead in forming alliances and strategic partnerships for product delivery services.
  •  Manage the operations of the national branch network.
  •  Devise and recommend budgets for the national branch network
  •  Cost control across the branch network.
  • Strategy, Business Development, marketing and research
  • Plan and implement all activations across the branch network.
  • Ensure continuous growth of the loan portfolio.
  • Ensure that all NEEF employees are meeting their set caseloads and targets.
  • Ensure that penetration rates across rural Malawi are above 50% within reasonable time as set by the Board.
  • Recruit, train and assess businesses of customers.
  • Periodically conduct market research on all products
  • Continuous development of new products responding to customer needs in the rural finance market for Malawi.
  • Monitor products performance and recommend revision to the Executive Management Committee.
  • Ensure that NEEF products and services are continuously promoted through all channels targeting the bottom of the economic pyramid customers
  •  Keep the Board updated on all competition matrices and strategy focus
  •  Devise, implement and continuously update the strategy for NEEF
  •  Lead the development and revision of NEEF Business Plans and strategies.
Risk Management

  • Ensure that all asks for NEFF are defined, identified, mitigated or transferred at all times.
  •  Ensure that credit risk policies for NEEF are accurately and continuously communicated to all staff and that all staff adhere to credit policy manuals
  •  Ensure that the loan portfolio at risk is very low at all times.
  •  In conjunction with Heads of RISK and Compliance, Credit and Finance, continuously monitor and ensure that all regulatory requirements are being adhered to
  • Talent, Identification, development, nurturing and retention
  •  Ensure that the entire national branch network is properly stalled commensurate with the business volumes of the branch.
  •  Ensure that all business development staff are properly recruited and inducted into NEEF
  • Ensure that all staff are continuously trained responding to new emerging business needs.
  •  Ensure far and accurate staff open appraisal system is being implemented across the branch network.
  •  Devise and implement an effective succession plan across the branch network.
Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate must have the following skills and competencies:

  •  Expert knowledge of digital finance and its application for the rural poor.
  •  Conceptual and analytical skills and a good eye for detail.
  •  Ability to cope under pressure.
  •  Planning and organizatonal skills.
  •  Negotiation skills and the ability to influence people.
  •  Good communication and presentation skills.
  •  Commercial awareness, numerical skills and the ability to evaluate costs.
  •  Ability to understand broader business issues.
  •  Working knowledge of Malawi legal and regulatory microfinance framework.
  •  Flair in working with microfinance modelling tools.
  •  Expert knowledge of digital finance and application for the rural poor.
  •  Expert knowledge of rural finance including agricultural rural finance with proved experience in product development, research and marketing.

• Ideal candidate must possess an advanced degree from a well-recognized and accredited university in business administration, economics, finance or other social sciences. Those with bank related professional qualifications will have an added advantage.

• Candidates must have served in senior position in a large commercial microfinance business or a retail bank for minimum three years
