Job Description

R4H formerly known as Riders for Health (RFH) is a humanitarian non-governmental organisation working to assist the Ministry of Heath and Population in establishing a well-coordinated, reliable national Sample Transport mechanism. R4H’s vision: “To be the number one Health Logistics provider in Malawi ensuring healthcare reaches everyone everywhere”

R4H wishes to recruit suitable qualified, experienced and dedicated individuals to fill the position of Finance Officer. The qualified persons must be able to show potential to manage sample transport processes and work effectively with a diverse group of people.


 
Position: Finance Officer: (1 Position)


Base : Lilongwe


Reports to : Finance Manager


The purpose of the Position

The Finance Officer will work closely with the Finance Manager in a range of finance activities including but not limited, making payments, managing finance records and reporting. To support the operations of R4H through efficient delivery of finance, and accounts functions, to provide support on day to day basic finance office activities.


 
Specific duties and responsibilities


Roles specification/Key responsibilities

  • • Assist in preparation of bank reconciliations.
    • Maintain banking relationship by liaising with relevant bank officials on all matters concerning Riders bank accounts and transactions.
    • Maintaining general ledger accounts
    • Managing fixed asset register and conducting regular stock take.
    • Ensure supporting documents are complete before making any payment.
    • Prepare monthly cash requests, maintain the cash float, and ensure that the office has adequate funds for operations at all times.
    • Assist in preparation of annual budgets.
    • Coaching non-finance staff on relevant financial procedures and policies.
    • Assist in monitoring the Financial performance of projects including explanation of variances and other analysis of financial information
    • Prepare pension, payee and VAT reports and claims.
    • Assist on internal & external audit preparation and implementation of recommendation from the audit action pan
    • Ensure all journal entries are completed in an accurate and timely manner in order to run month-end and year-end procedures.
    • Filling and archiving of all finance documents.
    • Any other duty assigned by management.


    Qualifications and experience

    • • Diploma in Accounting or its equivalent from a reputable and recognized university. A Degree in Accounting and those studying towards attainment of a professional accounting qualification (such as ACCA or CIMA) have an added advantage.
      • Should possess relevant accounting experience of not less than 3 years in a busy organization and must have sound knowledge of using computers.
      • Practical experience in using computerized accounting packages such as quick books will be an added advantage.
      • Must have ability to work against tight deadlines in a multi-donor and multi program environment.
      • Must have strong analytical and reporting skills with attention to details.
      • Should de able to coach and train finance and non-finance staff.
      • Must possess high level of integrity, honesty, maturity, diligence, good attitude and commitment towards work.
      • Must be a team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
