Job Description

The Embassy of Iceland is hiring and 4 positions are vacant at the Embassy in Lilongwe and at the field office in Mangochi. Iceland and Malawi started bilateral relations in 1989. The Embassy of Iceland in Lilongwe was formally opened in 2004. Today, the Embassy of Iceland works with a range of development partners in Malawi to support social development in the country. A considerable focus, from the outset, has been in the district of Mangochi.

Position: Finance Manager

The Embassy of Iceland in Lilongwe is recruiting a Finance Manager to commence in July 2021. The Finance Manager is part of the Embassy’s management team and works closely with Finance Team in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Iceland and reports directly to the Head of Mission. The position is based in Lilongwe but frequent travel to our Mangochi office required.

Responsibilities and main tasks

  • Responsible for financial reconciliations of the Embassy and works closely with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Iceland.
  • Responsible for Embassy’s day to day financial accounting, reporting and transactions.
  • Prepares finance reports and documents on the Embassy’s operations, projects and programmes.
  • Prepares bank account and cashbox reconciliations for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.
  • Assist in year-end closing and audit document preparation. Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual financial progress reports.
  • Collaborate with programme and project partners (Government officials, UN organisations, and non-government/civil society organizations).

Qualifications and professional skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance or Accounting.
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience working in the area of finance management for national or international development partners in Malawi.
  • Excellent financial analytical skills, strong written and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills; accounting systems, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Personal skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • High integrity.
  • Organised and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function independently and in a team
