Job Description

Job Title: Finance & Operation Officer

Malawi Network of Older Persons’ Organizations (MANEPO), Kadale Properties Limited, Plot no. 244, Bwaila Road, Area 15, Lilongwe, MALAWI; with periodic travel to project locations (Central-Eastern Malawi).

Contract type: Full time, 40 hours a week, one-year renewable fixed contract

Salary: Competitive

Background & Purpose

MANEPO is a consortium of Civil Society Organizations whose aim is to help older men and women claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives in Malawi

MANEPO is looking to recruit a Finance and Operations Officer on a fixed term contract to provide support in the implementation of the 3-year project entitled: Improving access to quality, inclusive and comprehensive eye health services for marginalized rural communities in central-eastern Malawi. The project is funded by UK Government and will be delivered in partnership with Christian Blind Mission UK (CBM UK) and Nkhoma CCAP Mission Hospital.

The purpose of the role is to provide sound financial management and operational support to enable successful implementation of the above-mentioned project. The job holder will ensure all financial reporting and partnership commitments are met and will work in close collaboration with NMH and CBM UK.

Key responsibilities:

  • • Maintain financial control systems and processes to ensure that financial resources as used by the NMH are in compliance with MANEPO and CBM UK financial policies, standards and procedures with specific donor requirements.
    • Coordinate project financial reporting, ensuring quality, accuracy and timeliness of reports.
    • Prepare financial documents and critically analyze financial reports for compliance against donor requirement and approved budget.
    • Support MNH with accurate budget forecasting and planning.
    • Monitor project budget through budget versus actual analysis, analyzing burn rates and under/overspend.
    • Review periodical program fund reconciliation statements and financial report to ensure completeness and accuracy of the financial reports
    • Provide operational and logistics support to the Project Manager for the smooth and effective implementation of the project.
    • Support the Project Manager in monitoring and mitigating project risks.
    • Provide support to the Project Manager to carry out inclusive monitoring and evaluation of the project activities.
    • Provide other support as required by the line manager.

    Qualifications and Experience:


    • • Bachelor of Accounting, Economics, Finance, Administration, or any other relevant field
      • Qualified accountant or working towards a qualification.
      • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
      • High level of accuracy.
      • At least three to five years of professional experience in audit, financial management, systems, and controls, including grant management, preferably within an International Organization
      • Ability to analyze complex problems and express financial implications and recommendations in clear business cases at all levels.
      • Proven ability to verbalize, engage, work, and collaborate productively with a wide variety of stakeholders to produce quality reports under tight deadlines.
      • Experience in managing institutional donor funded projects. Fluency in written and spoken English.


      • • Experience and understanding of Eye Health and particular Eye Health Services in Malawi.
        • Experience in supporting project implementation, organisation and logistics.
        • Experience of working with persons with disabilities and / or older persons, and sound understanding of disability issues.

          • Demonstrable interpersonal skills that build consensus and partnership working; ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
          • Ability to develop finance management capacity in others and promote the importance of solid financial controls.
          • Effective communication skills. Proven excellent organizational and coordination skills as well as high level of autonomy.
