Duty Station: Blantyre, Malawi

The mission of the Malawi Environmental Endowment Trust (MEET) to mobilize, manage and disburse financial resources to support actions that yield positive conservation results and contribute to sustainable development.

In order to achieve this, MEET manages a grant facility that awards grants to various partners to facilitate the implementation of projects that address challenges within the environmental and natural resource management sector.

MEET is looking to recruit a proactive, resourceful and result orientated individual for the position of Finance and Administration Officer.


The incumbent will provide effective leadership in Finance and Administration for the efficient and effective operations of the Trust. The Finance and Administration Officer is responsible for developing and managing finance and administration processes in accordance with organizational policy and for providing support, information and advice to the MEET Board, Staff, Grantees, Donors and other MEET Stakeholders as required.


  • To lead in the effective implementation of MEET’s Finance, Accounting, Procurement and Investment Policies and to regularly review and propose revisions to the said policies to ensure compliance with legal requirements and quality control;
  • To manage all financial transactions in Sage Partner accounting software and ensure safe record keeping, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), in order to produce and present accurate financial data;
  • To provide direction, coordinate, prepare and present annual and quarterly budgets and financial reports based on sound analysis as required by Management, the MEET Board and Donors and oversee income and expenditure in a transparent and accountable manner that informs timely Management decisions and safeguarding of resources;
  • Liaise with and oversee MEET’s Fund Manager in monitoring the performance of the endowment fund against key economic and investment fundamentals in order to forecast financial flows and highlight areas that require prompt Management of Board action to manage financial risks and sustain the growth of MEET’s endowment fund;
  • Develop Terms of Reference for the External Audit, manage all preparations for audit and ensure follow up of all financial management issues as presented in the Management letter.
  • Participate in the review of grant applications, and provide sound judgement in resource allocation in accordance with MEET’s Grant Policy
  • Oversee and supervise MEET grantee’s by providing orientation and coaching in all matters pertaining to grant management
  • Liaise with Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and ensure the Trust’s tax obligations are up to date
  • Represent the organisation in financial matters in various fora
  • Undertake all other responsibilities that ensure the financial well-being of the Trust.


  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to make sound judgement and decisions
  • Very good planning, monitoring and organizational skills and able to work collaboratively
  • Ethical conduct in accordance with recognized professional and organizational code of ethics
  • Knowledge of donor regulations highly preferred
  • Knowledge of local law in taxation and local regulatory reporting procedures
  • Staff Management experience
  • Proficient in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Web-Conferencing applications
  • Knowledge and Sage Financial Accounting software
  • Valid Driving license.


  • First Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics and/or Business Administration with courses in accounting, or a qualification in accounting (CPA/ACCA or equivalent)
  • Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM)
  • Minimum of Five years’ experience in a similar position, preferably with a local or international NGO
  • Demonstrated experience with donor funded projects
  • Some knowledge and experience in Human Resource Management would also be an added advantage.
