Job Description


DAPP Malawi in partnership with VALE Logistics Limited will implement a Social Inclusion and Income Generating Project for most vulnerable people among households along Kachasu - Nayuchi railway line (covering four districts of Balaka, Mwanza, Neno and Chikwawa). The project seeks to strengthen the financial literacy of vulnerable persons with focus on financial management, accountability and developing business plans. In line with capacity building activities, the project will facilitate the creation and consolidation of Village Savings and Loans Groups. In addition, to attain food security among the targeted beneficiaries, the project will promote the growing of drought tolerant crops (cassava and sweet potatoes) especially in Neno, Balaka and Chikwawa.

DAPP Malawi therefore seeks to hire services of qualified individuals for the position of:

Position: Field Officers

The Field Officers will be reporting to the Project Coordinator

Specific duties include:

  • Facilitate the establishment of Village Saving Loan (VSL) groups in the targeted districts
  • Train the VSL members in group dynamics, and leadership development
  • Train selected individuals in business management, financial literacy record keeping based on businesses selected
  • Provide coaching and monitoring business performance for all beneficiaries
  • Organise review meetings with all stakeholders at all levels
  • Preparing weekly and monthly reports
  • Engaging local micro-finance institutions to link project beneficiaries to benefit from the financial services.

The Job requirements for the Field Officer profile are as follows:

  • The individual should have a minimum of a Certificate in Community Development, Social Work, Development Studies or any related field.
  • He/she should have proven experience in working with community members especially the vulnerable groups
  • He/she must have knowledge on how to sustain and develop already existing small scale businesses among the vulnerable people.
  • Good writing and reporting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team player with good facilitation skills.
  • Those with knowledge and experience in community mobilisation, financial literacy and business management in relation to SMEs will have an added advantage.
