Job Description

Rays of Hope Ministries is a non-profit, Christian organization that collaborates with the Malawi government to produce morally responsible and youthful leaders through educational programs in Blantyre, Zomba, Ntchisi, and Mchinji. We focus on basic and secondary school students as a foundation for glooming these youthful leaders. There is a need to invest time and resources in the welfare of the children when they are in school, at home and afterschool. To that end, we intend to recruit qualified individuals to fill existing vacancies in the organization below.



Position: FIELD OFFICER (1 post) Based in Ntchisi (Post only for women)



Role Purpose

The Field Officer will be reporting to the PROCLAIM Project Coordinator. She will be responsible for the day-to-day micro leadership and management of project to have smooth project implementation in line with Rays of Hope policies and donor requirements in the designated program impact area. The incumbent will always implement, monitor, coordinate, and facilitate project activities in partnership with decentralized government structures at all levels (community, cluster, zonal and district).


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • In collaboration with the project coordinator, organize and facilitate in-service training of teachers.
  • Strengthen teacher capacity through trainings, review meetings and mentoring through the Teacher Network Model.
  • Conceptualize and coordinate Open Days paying attention to pre-open day event preparations such as communication, organization, etc.
  • Coordinate the Learner Trucking Training involving the community with deliberate emphasis on Mother Groups and teacher aides as a tool to enforce accountability and transparency.
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with teachers, head teachers, Primary Education Advisors and other community level stakeholders.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and annual narrative reports to the Programme Coordinator.
  • Collect adequate and relevant data at the time of implementation to inform the MEAL and the Programmes Coordinator.
  • In collaboration with Primary Education Advisors, conduct routine supervision visits to the project impact area.
  • Establish after-school Reading and Numeracy Clubs, supported by communities and club facilitators
  • Train after-school Reading and Numeracy Club facilitators on facilitation techniques and strategies to promote parent engagement
  • Conduct monitoring and mentorship visits to support teachers in improving the delivery of reading and numeracy lessons in schools
  • Establish community/school-led feeding committees to manage home grown school feeding programs



QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma level qualification in education, and experience in management and implementation of basic education program/projects.



EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • At least three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the field of Education.
  • Skills in community mobilization, especially involvement of parents in supporting learning for their children, capacity building and group facilitation
  • Experience working with NGOs
  • Willing and committed to work in challenging conditions especially hardest to reach areas
  • Ability and flexibility to work with a team
  • Honest, reliable and a good work ethic
  • Must have a clean Motorcycle driving license
