Institutional Background

Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego has been working in Malawi since 1999 implementing a wide-range of interventions in maternal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Current projects include facility and community-based HIV testing services, and HIV prevention.


Jhpiego Malawi With funding from PEPFAR through CDC is implementing a Faith and Community Initiative (FCI) project entitled “Strengthening the Delivery, Coordination and Monitoring of HIV services in Malawi through Faith Based Institutions and will be working with Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) . The program aims to engage Faith Communities to Find Men and Children Living with HIV by increased utilization of HTS in selected districts in Malawi to support the attainment of the 95-95-95 goals, in alignment with PEPFAR and Malawian Government priorities. This includes increasing access to and demand for HTS, improving linkages from HTS to other services, and improving quality of HTS.


The program intends to recruit suitable and a qualified staff for the vacant positions below: The program is anticipated to start early June 2021 until September 2021.

Supervises: FCI Project staff 


Position Summary

The  FCI District Coordinator is responsible for leading the FCI district team in FCI project titled: “Strengthening the coordination, delivery and Monitoring of HIV and AIDS Services in Malawi through faith Based Institutions in Malawi” funded by US Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The Project focuses on two thematic areas namely; HIV case finding among men and children and justice for children. The project is being implemented in 4 districts in Malawi namely; Zomba, Chiradzulu, Blantyre and Thyolo. She/He will lead the district team to implement targeted, and high-quality services that achieve project goals, objectives and district targets. She/he will identify opportunities for innovation and address bottlenecks. She /he will be responsible for representing the project in district level meetings, and other meetings as needed; for ensuring collaboration with other partners/stakeholders, and working closely with District Health Management Team (DHMT), to ensure alignment with their priorities and guidance. S/he will ensure timely and cost-effective district level implementation.


Required Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competencies


  • Bachelor’s degree in a health related discipline (Nursing, Clinical),
  • At least 5 years of experience in health sector programs, with focus on community-based HIV service delivery or GBV programming.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge and experience in public health programs particularly HTS services – Testing & HIV Prevention, GBV prevention, service integration in Malawi;
  • Strong understanding of PEPFAR and Malawian Government HIV priorities, including 95-95-95 goals and demographic targeting, and familiarity with MOH guidelines, policies and strategic priorities;
  • Experience in managing and motivating teams, supervising staff, and addressing performance challenges;
  • Competent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point Outlook Email etc);
  • Articulate in written and spoken English with effective communication skills, and excellent interpersonal and written and oral presentation skills;
  • Ability to work in a complex environment charged with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform;
  • Motivated, passionate, and hardworking.
