Job Description

We have been retained by our client in the NGO sector to carry out an Executive Search for suitably qualifying persons to fill the position of Executive Director tenable at their Head Office in Zomba.

Position purpose and Dimensions of the Role
  • An Executive Director with a growth mindset’ to lead the organization in line with its 2040 Vision
  • The organization is in a moment of evolution, and the ideal candidate must have the ability to work at a strategic organizational level, helping to set the organization’s future direction for exponential growth and raise funds to support it.
  • Reporting to Board. The Executive Director will be a critical thought partner to the other two Directors, a strong frontline fundraiser, and an excellent team worker

Key Responsibilities of the Position
  • Lead, and creatively execute the organization’s 2040 Vision and develop a 5-Year Strategy while tracking progress towards achieving the Vision;
  • Ensure the organization’s long-term financial sustainability and growth by identifying and capitalizing on new and existing fundraising opportunities, well set up fundraising goals across all revenue streams including grant writing etc.
  • Oversee organization operations, budget work plan, audit, contracts, legal, program implementation and impact. and compliance issues.
  • Manage a portfolio of the organization’s development and strategic partners:
  • Work closely with the Board and executive management to actively assist organization in achieving its strategic, programmatic, and financial goals, that will be clearly outlined in Key Result Areas (for Executive Management and Trustees),
  • Lead external communications and collaborations: act as an external representative of the organization: cultivate relationships with other thought leaders in the international development space; develop and oversee communications strategies aimed at elevating the organization’s visibility
  • Work closely with Director of Operations (DOP), including monitoring and evaluation team, to ensure that programs and their impactare being communicated effectively to external stakeholders
  • Conduct Participatory Organizational Development Assessment (PODA) and execute plans addressing issues raised in the PODA.

Qualifications/Experience Desirable:

  • A graduate with a Masters Degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Over 10 years’ experience with program development/fundraising/strategy and program implementation ideally in Malawi or Africa region.
  • Over 10 years’ experience in NGO leadership: INGO or National NGO; international development (strategic planning leadership)
  • A great communicator and relationship builder; experience in knowledge sharing and communication; having excellent written and verbal communication skills-eg.grant writing, storyteller to higher level audiences.
  • Strong team worker: Ability to inspire, encourage, and assist team members in various locations in reaching ambitious goals while fostering support and collaboration across the organization; and
  • Inspires organization teams to take on new challenges, and manage change
  •  Experience working with boards
  • Superior interpersonal skills and a high level of self-awareness, with a proven ability to successfully engage with a variety of audiences in a culturally conscious manner, and great network builder hemesaing strategic partnerships with stakeholders within Malawi and globally.
  • Growth mindset and an interest in continual learning.
  • Candidates should have some experience in developing productive working relationships and strategic partnerships with stakeholders within Malawi and globally.
  • Candidates should be able to manage high volume of work; effectively manage own work, and work of teams when relevant, ensuring delivery of high-quality work, and be multi-tasked,
