MAC-CDAC is a research unit under the College of Medicine that works with Ministry of health, local and international health agencies to address priority health problems in Malawi and the SADC region through operational and evidence synthesis research, capacity building and training, health care systems strengthening, disease surveillance, and monitoring and impact evaluation in communicable diseases including malaria, HIV, vaccine preventable diseases and Neglected tropical diseases.
We are currently looking for self-motivated and talented individuals interested in vector biology research and broadening their knowledge of malaria entomology. The Research Assistant will assist in the execution of the Essential Entomological Indicators for Assessment of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (ESSENTIALS) project in Malawi. The study, in collaboration with the WHO and other collaborators, seeks to develop and set clear guidelines for use of a minimal set of entomological indicators, adaptable for different settings, for malaria control programmes to use when selecting the LLIN with the greatest public health impact in malaria endemic countries.
Position: ENTOMOLOGY RESEARCH ASSISTANT (BLANTYRE) [2 POSTS]
POSITION SUMMARY
The Research Assistant will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) implement project activities including, live anopheline mosquito collections for various bio-assays, experimental hut trials and mosquito flight tracking experiments. S/he will engage in scientific experiments, literature review, report and scientific writing to answer some of the project’s research questions. The successful candidate must be open minded and have a thirst for knowledge to explore unfamiliar fields of science.
