Job Description

Blantyre Water Board is a government-owned institution established and reconstituted under the Waterworks Act of 1995 to supply potable water to residents of the City of Blantyre City and other surrounding areas. Blantyre Water Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant positions:

Position: ELECTRICIAN

Purpose of the Job

To carry out installation, maintenance and repairs of electrical equipment at the plant and in institutional houses.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Repairing electrical faults at the plant, offices and institutional houses;
  •  Carrying out electrical installations including motors, transformers, switch gears etc.
  •  Participating in major breakdown maintenance within the Board;
  •  Interpreting electrical circuit diagrams;
  •  Performing other relevant duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience

  • City and Guilds Part II or Grade 1 National Trade Test Certificate in Electrical Installation
  • At least two (2) years proven work experience in mechanical engineering in a busy organization

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Conversant with large electrical pumping equipment e.g. motors, transformers, and switchgears
  • Should be organized, a team player and hardworking
  • Ability to exercise own initiative and judgment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and during odd hours.
