Job Description

MwAPATA Institute is an independent agriculture policy think tank in Malawi. The Institute is affiliated to the National Planning Commission (NPC) of Malawi and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). MwAPATA Institute is engaging the Government of Malawi, private sector and civil society stakeholders in a program of applied policy analysis. capacity building, knowledge dissemination, and policy coordination on topics related to agriculture, natural resource management, and rural development. The ultimate goal of MwAPATA Institute is to accelerate the adoption of effective Malawian-led policies and programs to drive broad-based agricultural transformation. diversification and improved smallholder incomes and nutrition in Malawi. The Institute will play a leading role in identifying strategies that will improve the investment climate, promote diversification, and promote increased commercialization and productivity within Malawi’s agricultural sector and then build consensus and support for their implementation. Among other things, this would include building coalitions of private and public sector support to overcome barriers to private investment; assisting government to develop and implement improved policies and regulatory frameworks: and capacity strengthening in policy analysis and communication

MwAPATA Institute wishes to recruit highly motivated, proactive service-oriented and energetic individuals to fill the following position based in Lilongwe:

Post: Driver/Office Assistant [1 Post]

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the Institute vehicles on official business and ensuring that Institute vehicles are always in good running condition. She/he will also be responsible for providing administrative support for the smooth operation of the office.

Key tasks shall Include:

  • Driving staff locally and to project districts.
  • Drive researchers to field sites and assist with data collection, where possible.
  • Carrying out office errands, deliveries and collections.
  • Maintain a good logging system for the use of the vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with organization’s vehicle driving policies.
  • Conduct daily checks on levels of oils/lubricants. battery acid, tire pressure etc.
  • Track all vehicle expenses in appropriate forms.
  • Ensure that vehicles are properly insured and road licenses/taxes are up to date.
  • Prepare and submit monthly vehicle fuel/maintenance costs reports.
  • Report all vehicle faults and request for maintenance as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with government laws on drive speed, parking, and other road safety regulations.
  • Support administrative functions and carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and skills

  • Clean class PG driver’s license.
  • Malawi School Certification of Education and good spoken English.
  • Three or more years previous experience driving for international organizations.
  • Experience driving in urban and rural settings with good ability to handle and manage tour-wheel drive vehicles.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to prepare and keep computerized records and use e-mail
  • Those with a Defensive Driving License will have an added advantage
