Job Title: Driver 

Job Location: Blantyre

Reporting to: Logistics Manager


Background


GOAL has been operating in Malawi since 2002, initially in an emergency capacity, and then as a broader health and livelihoods focused development programme. Globally, GOAL’s current strategic goals are as follows: i) communities attain optimal and resilient health; ii) vulnerable groups participate in and shape their society and environment; iii) households and communities have economic and food security. These objectives are in line with the Government of Malawi’s own developmental priorities, as laid out in the MGDS II.


General Description of the Role


Driving GOAL Malawi vehicles to transport GOAL employees and other programme materials.


Key responsibilities

  • Follow the rules of driving according to the GOAL Driver Policy and the Malawian Road Authority.
  • To assure the safety of the passengers at all times through safe driving
  • Ensure the safe distribution of all GOAL property or donations by obtaining signatures for all deliveries of goods.
  • Proper completion and managing of the Vehicle Logbook.
  • Responsible for filling out timesheets and prior authorisation for overtime.
  • Fill in all fuel vouchers or paperwork when putting fuel in the vehicles.
  • Complete the Logbook for each journey each day ensuring that the team leader signs for each journey
  • Report all problems (all faults or potential faults) concerning the vehicle immediately to the Fleet Manager.
  • Work in collaboration with the guards in keeping accurate forms concerning the movement of vehicles and the stocks being delivered.
  • Immediately reporting all breakdowns or accidents.
  • Maintaining the vehicles as outlined in the daily and weekly check sheets.
  • Before each journey checking the fuel levels and emergency kit as outlined in the VLB.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicles at all times.
  • Follow the movement of stock (arriving and exiting)
  • Respect the Standards of Integrity
  • Assure to respect all the organisations policies whilst carrying out your duties.
  • Ensuring the vehicle services are timely reported to ensure continuity of duty.
  • Assist with public relations on behalf of GOAL whilst carrying out your duties.
  • Take up any administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Carrying out any other duties as delegated from time to time

Qualification, Knowledge Abilities and Skills
  • Have a valid clean drivers’ licence for the relevant category of vehicle
  • Have a Defensive Driving
  • Have 4 x 4 driving experience
  • Know how to use a winch
  • Basic Mechanical knowledge
  • MSCE with 3 years driving experience
