Job Description

Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 to supplement Government efforts in addressing HIV and AIDS and health burden in Malawi. Through its various programs, it is currently providing high quality HIV testing, prevention and treatment services to individuals, families and communities through static and outreach outlets in order to reduce HIV transmission and the impact of HIV and AIDS in Malawi.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following open positions for MACRO’s Ana Patsogolo Activity (APA) Program to be based in Mangochi.

Position: District Parenting Officer  

Position Overview

Reporting to the Program Manager, the District Parenting Officer will ensure compliance to the project guidelines in the management of OVCs and AGYWs in the targeted households in Mangochi district.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Provide oversight and coordination support of parenting activities in the district.
  • Actively participate in the development of project annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly work plans and scheduling of parenting capacity building activities at community
  • Work closely with other officers and stakeholders to conduct HIV/GBV assessments and
    work with participants in parenting groups to ensure action is planned to address the root causes of GBV.
  • Support identification of training needs of Community structures in Parenting and ECD.
  •  Periodically develop costed training plans and coordinate the training of community structures in Parenting and ECD service delivery to ensure increased enrolment of at risk adolescent girls in DREAMS districts and other community members exposed, infected and affected by HIV and AIDS into Parenting and ECD activities
  • Represent MACRO in technical meetings, events and collaborate with various child protection service providers both formal and non-formal to ensure comprehensive service delivery to beneficiary vulnerable households.
  • Manage the documentation including electronic and non-electronic filing and storage of data on parenting, parenting tools, presentations, meeting minutes.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  •  Degree in Social work, Development Studies, Education or Community Psychology
  •  Three years’ experience working with Child protection focused projects, OVC programming, case management and knowledge of HIV/AIDS service delivery among positive caregivers and children

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of and experience with USAID funded programs/ projects policies and procedures will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of child development and its influence on parent/child relationship in every stage of child’s development
  • Previous experience of working with a parenting and ECD programme will be a great asset
  • Ability to interpret program policies and procedures.
  •  Ability to independently plan, organize and carry out work assignments.
  • Good communication skills with ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work with various stakeholders at district.
