Job Description

MACOHA is a Statutory Corporation established by an Act of Parliament, the Handicapped Persons Act, Cap 33:02 of 1971. Its mission is to implement Government policies by providing rehabilitation programs and services and promoting public interest for the empowerment of persons with disabilities in order to achieve an inclusive society. Council’s programs and services are aimed at mainstreaming disability in all areas of the country’s development agenda.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions tenable at MACOHA Head Office on Kittermaster Avenue, BCA Hills, Limbe.



The Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) shall report directly to the Executive Director of Malawi Council for the Handicapped. His/Her responsibility shall be to devise an efficient financial system arid to provide Human Resource and Administrative support services to the core operations of the Council. In addition to regular financial management and day to day Human Resource and Administrative functions, the DFA shall form part of Council’s Senior Management Team and as such shall be expected to participate in the development of appropriate policies and procedures to enhance Council’s operational efficiency.


The successful candidate shall be responsible for:
  • Managing the Finance and Administration Department and providing overall leadership, guidance and direction in the planning and execution of all finance and administrative functions of the Council.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining sound financial management and control systems of MACOHA, including maintaining Councils Computerized accounting system.
  • Formulating, implementing and constantly reviewing financial policies and procedures of MACOHA.
  • Formulating criteria for fund management and implementation of fund allocation and disbursement for Councils Units.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts and producing quarterly and annual accounts in compliance with the generally acceptable accounting procedures and practices.
  • Managing Councils fixed assets and insurance portfolios.
  • Managing the human resource and administrative functions including overseeing the preparation and payment of monthly staff salaries, the recruitment and supervision of middle management and support staff, and conducting periodic job evaluations and staff performance reviews and appraisals.
  • Developing and implementing staff development plans.
  • Coordinating the development and management of Councils annual budget
  • Performing such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.


  • The successful candidate should be well qualified in Accountancy, such as Chartered Accountant, Masters of Business Administration
  • He/she should have requisite experience in Human Resource Management and Administration
  • A minimum of three years of work experience at senior management level preferably in a reputable organisation
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Sound Management and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy and team spirit


The successful candidates shall be offered a negotiated performance related contract for a period of three years with an attractive salary, benefits and gratuity package commensurate with the seniority of the position.
