Job Description

Pentecostal Life University (PLU), a faith based institution recognized, registered and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the challenging position of Director of Finance (DOF). 


Position: Director of Finance (DOF)


This is a Senior Management position which has duo reporting lines: reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor as well as Group Financial Controller (GFC) for Great Dominion Holdings Limited (GDHL). GDHL is a parent company for PLU. The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager and will lead and develop an internal team to support and analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and quarterly management accounts as well as annual financial statements. Additionally, our Director of Finance will oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process for the University in conjunction with the Vice Chancellor, administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provide excellent leadership and management of Corporate Finance, measured by the effectiveness, engagement and business unit in respect of the team. 
  • Manage and evaluate the quarterly management accounts and yearly financial statements 
  • Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly and yearly budgeting processes as well as evaluate all variance analysis 
  • Evaluate and monitor the University performance in relation to cash-flow and other financial results 
  • Prepare year-end audit material in conjunction with the GDHL Group Internal Auditor and support external auditors during the audit 
  • Build productive working relationships with stakeholders in order to understand their business operations and the financial information needs of end users. 
  • Manage relationships with others across the University to achieve alignment in key business strategies and decisions. 
  • Manage the University’s cash flow within available facilities and provide appropriate reporting 
  • Manage the University’s financial reporting obligations, with responsibility for preparation and lodgment of compliant full year and half year financial accounts. 
  • Manage the Group’s statutory taxation obligations (including Income Tax, FBT, Gaming and Payroll Tax), with responsibility for preparation and lodgment. 
  • Collaborate, design, implement and review finance systems, policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement and contemporary relevant practices. 
  • Oversee finance systems managing transaction flows from source through interfaces to general ledger. 
  • Ensure reporting functions and responses to ad hoc requests for financial related information are appropriately delivered. 
  • Preparation of annual budgets for the University. 
  • Perform the accounting function for University. 
  • Undertake a range of other activities within the Corporate Finance function, in conjunction with Finance staff, such as maintenance of key finance activities (e.g. asset financing); governance/internal control activities; business administration or insurance management. 

 

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes 

  • A committed Christian and must be a qualified Chartered Accountant. ACCA or equivalent professional qualifications are a must with more than 5 years of past qualification practical experience working in a similar position. Those with MBA Qualifications will be added advantage. 
  • Excellent Analytical, Interpersonal, Organizational, Computer Skills and must be flexible, disciplined, professional and regulatory compliant 
  • Be results oriented and able to deliver within agreed time lines
