Job Description

COMSIP Cooperative Union Limited is a member owned organization with a national footprint. It is a secondary cooperative, registered under the Cooperative Societies Act 1998. COMSIP works with rural and peri-urban community groups that are owned, managed and controlled by members themselves and its main thrust is building a culture of savings and investment among ordinary Malawians in a quest to improve livelihoods.

COMSIP is an implementing agency in the Malawi Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project (MSSRLP), a government of Malawi project supported by the World Bank.

With funding from the World Bank through the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC) COMSIP therefore intends to use part of the funding to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, and result oriented project staff for the following posts to be based in Lilongwe and Mzuzu.



Position: 
Development Communications Officer


Main Duties

The major role of the Development Communications Officer will be to plan and coordinate COMSIP communications initiatives in all media platforms (print, electronic and digital). The officer will also act as a media liaison person and shall report to the Operations Manager. The officer will be part of the operations team and s/he will specifically:

  • Create communications content on behalf of an organization.
  • Develop and publish project success stories to enhance project visibility
  • Produce and distribute digital content through all media platforms
  • Contribute to web management functions, including updating content on the COMSIP website and social media platforms
  • Design high quality communication materials and publications such as newsletters, posters, and infographics;
  • Develop high quality content, including articles/ stories and press releases, in support of identified project goals, strategies and programs for external and internal audiences;
  • Take pictures and maintain database of video and picture content;
  • Facilitate learning visits among COMSIP groups
  • Facilitate information preparation for visits of delegations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media
  • Conduct communication and civic awareness campaigns
  • Prepare relevant ad hoc and period reports
  • Develop, manage and monitor Communications budgets
  • Contribute to the production and printing of Annual Reports

 

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication/Education/ Public Relations
  • At least three (3) years’ professional experience in communication, media and/or public relations, preferably in a project setting.
  • Excellent knowledge in communication techniques tools, methods, channels.
  • Excellent ability to express oneself orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability with social media marketing and promotional strategies
  • Knowledge of layout and design for print and web-based promotional materials
  • Good writing and editing skills
  • Graphics designing and video production skills
  • Website management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Very good photography, videography and radio production skills
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral
  • Adequate knowledge and adherence to Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
