Brief Background to ADMARC

Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) is a statutory corporation formed under Chapter 67:03 of the Laws of Malawi, The company is a state-owned Company whose functions fall in two major categories namely commercial and social. Under its commercial function, the Company’s main objectives include but not limited to production, grading, value-addition, packaging, marketing and distribution of agricultural produce across the country and beyond. Under its social function, ADMARC Ltd plays a pivotal role in maize price stabilization for food security as well as other developmental and social roles on behalf of Government.

In recent years, ADMARC Limited has experienced several challenges on account of both Internal and external factors. The challenges include inadequate operational resources and capital investment, late entry onto the agricultural commodity market, unpredictable weather patterns which have in turn affected agricultural production.

In its quest to deal with the challenges, the Government of Malawi intends to reform ADMARC to enhance efficiency in the Company’s operations. Government is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced Malawian candidates to fill the vacant position that has arisen at ADMARC Ltd and whose details are highlighted below:

Job Title: Deputy Chief Executive Officer - Social (DCEO – S)

Grade: AL2

Department: Social Department

Location: Limbe Head Office

Age Limit: Not more than 55 years of age at the date of being appointed

Terms of Employment: Three (3) years contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

Reporting Responsibility : Chief Executive Officer of ADMARC

Job Purpose

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer Social will be responsible for the management of the Social Department or Unit of ADMARC Ltd.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure effective delivery of the social functions of ADMARC Ltd.
  • Lead the process to formulate an effective model that promotes the Government food security objective through maize price stabilization during lean seasons;
  • Put in place a system that promotes transparency and accountability during implementation of social programmes;
  • Ensure timely submission of performance reports on implementation of social programmes;
  • Ensure that social programmes and projects are formulated and implemented in line with national strategies and policies;
  • Ensure value for money in the procurement of maize and other crop products on behalf of Government;
  • Ensure food commodities under his or her custody remain safe for human consumption in adherence to food regulatory standards, ISO 2200 Food Safety Management Systems and Malawi Bureau of Standards regulations;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time by the CEO.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of Masters Degree in Agriculture related field or Economics, Business Administration, and Finance;
  • Those with a PhD will have an added advantage;
  • Minimum of 5 years proven managerial experience at senior level
  • Be of high, moral and ethical character;
  • Knowledge of government social support programmes and how the work;
  • Results oriented and proven capability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines;
  • Excellent knowledge of agricultural innovations available in the region and worldwide;
  • Good experience working on improving rural livelihoods and investments for food security in rural areas will have an added advantage.
