Job Description

The International Potato Center (CIP) has been coordinating the contribution of seven CGIAR Centers in the first phase of the KULIMA project since July 2018. Within a short period, the Centers have made significant progress in mapping of existing technologies for each agroecological zone of Malawi and development of integrated technology packages that respond to the needs of smallholder farmers. These innovations and technologies are being rolled out at three residential training centers in Mzuzu, Kasungu and Mulanje Districts. More specifically, the CGIAR have contributed to curriculum development for the Master Trainers courses, established study plots at the 3 RTCs and 45 outreach groups and started facilitating trainings for Master Trainers.

CIP-Malawi is looking for 1 Data Programmer for the survey.

Position: Data Programmer (1 post)


  • Assist Monitoring and Evaluation Supervisors in collecting data
  • Seek out respondents who fit the suggested profiles in assigned locations and collect data.
  • Gather and accurately record responses on questionnaires provided
  • Ensure that questionnaires have been thoroughly checked and completed


  • Organize and prepare a concept note for the study.
  • Organize and prepare data collection tools for the study.
  • Participate and organize piloting in which the questionnaire will be tested.
  • Supervise 2 teams of enumerators and work close with Team Leaders to implement and the day to day survey activities.
  • Make advance travels to study areas to pay courtesy calls to government/agricultural administrations and make preparations for visit by enumeration teams.
  • Participate in briefings, meetings, and discussions convened by the Survey Coordinators.
  • Keep a log of problems and challenges encountered, and how resolved, and key observations in a field notebook.
  • Routinely discuss the progress with Survey Coordinators.


  • Provide a survey report encompassing the findings of the survey and the possible recommendations drawn from the results observed.
  • Provide a well cleaned and formatted Data set.
  • Provide Enumerators Training report captured through the training session, in which the objectives of the study and the questionnaire will be explained in detail.

Expected duration and conditions:

  • This consultancy contract is for up to 25 days.
  • The payment is a fixed and consolidated fee.


Qualifications/special skills:

  • Master's degree in International and Development Economics.
  • M&E system set up and operationalization.
  • Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field.
