Job Description

The Institute of Public Opinion and Research (IPOR) is a research organization whose vision is to be “a leading hub for knowledge production and dissemination in relevant policy processes and recognizable for excellence in research, advisory and consulting services in Southern Africa and even beyond”. The overarching objective of IPOR is to promote positive change through the power of ideas by, among other things, identifying, encouraging and promoting and advocating for evidence-based insights in development programming and policy development through research, advisory services and training.

IPOR is looking for dynamic, young and reliable individuals to join our team. They must have proven track record of hard work, honesty, and integrity with tenacious desire for growth and learning. The individuals must be willing to work outside normal working hours, including weekends and be passionate for career development. We expect the successful individuals to be available to start work from 1stFebruary 2021


Position: Data and Communications Associate


Reporting to the Director of Research, the Data and Communication Associate will have the following responsibilities:
  • Leading IPOR’s data management and communications, working hand-in hand with IPOR’s Research Team.
  • Programming survey tools for Electronic Data Capture using various software packages, including, but not limited to: Survey CTO; Survey To Go; Open Data Kit, Survey Solutions, etc.
  • Setting up and managing data servers and troubleshooting problems
  • Managing fieldwork data and providing technical support for data analysis using various software packages, including, but not limited to MS Excel, SPSS, Stata, R, etc
  • Managing IPORs digital communication platforms, including webpage social media accounts
  • Preparing and running training courses in research, data analysis, management etc.
  • Writing, editing and distributing content, including publications, newsletters, press releases, social media and website content, annual reports and other marketing material that communicates IPOR’s activities, products and/or services.

Expected Qualification and Experience
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics or ICT or any relevant qualification from a recognized institution
  • Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis packages such as Survey CTO, Open Data Kit, Survey to Go, Survey Solutions, Excel, SPSS, Stata, R etc.
  • Familiarity with website and social media management
  • An analytical and communication mindset with problem-solving skills
