Job Description

Partners in Health (PIH) is a non-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. Through service delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those most in need and to serve as an antidote to despair. PIH has programs in Haiti, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kazakhstan and Boston.

 

PIH began working in Malawi in 2007, where today we support the Ministry of Health (MOH) to serve a catchment area of 165,000 through 12 health centers and two hospitals in partnership with our sister organizations. Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (APZU) is in Neno District and we seek to recruit suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following positions:



Position: Dambe Model Health Centre Clinical Officer



Reports to:
 Health facility in-charge


Commitment:
 Full Time (Monday-Friday)


Working Hours: 
Regular Office Hours (40Hrs/Week)


Location:
 Dambe Model Health Centre, Neno District, Malawi


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Mentoring clinical and nursing staff at the health centre
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring new projects and protocols around developing a model center for primary care
  • Taking the lead on quality improvement projects
  • Helping where applicable, and/or developing work plans, M&E plans, and other such activities as they come up
  • Leading the process for the health center to participate in district wide data quality initiatives
  • Coordinate with the MOH and APZU community health team members to develop strong links between clinical and community programs
  • Supporting continuing professional development at the health center
  • Working with clinical leadership from APZU and MOH to identify and carry out priorities identified in the District Implementation Plan
  • Performing Clinical duties at the health centre as assigned in maternal health, NCDs, HIV, TB, and general OPD
  • Working in collaboration with the MOH and PIH staff, at the health center and Neno district hospital when required.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting on a monthly basis
  • Any other duties assigned time to time.



Qualifications, Attributes and Experience Required

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in any clinical area.
  • Experience with program implementation and monitoring
  • Active registration with the Malawi Medical Council
  • Native of Malawi, fluent in Chichewa and English with written proficiency in English
  • Willingness to live and work full time in an extremely rural setting
  • Willingness to live in shared housing
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic team environment alongside health workers, support staff, and patients from a variety of backgrounds
  • Computer literate include Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Able to work with respect to patients and poor people
  • Able to work under minimum supervision
  • Should be willing to work at odd hours, weekends, on call and during emergencies without expectation of additional compensation
  • A strong interest in learning social medicine; that is, a willingness to look at diseases of poverty through a wide “biopsychosocial” lens that draws upon knowledge from a wealth of disciplines including clinical medicine, sociology, anthropology and public health.
