Position: CUSTOMS SPECIALIST



Purpose

The position is responsible for collating all the logistics information needed to complete the importation and customs clearance of imported materials, including tobacco packaging materials, machineries and factory spares, ensuring duty and VAT calculations are correct and accurate, following Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and other Government agencies requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the logistics of JTI imports of materials including; tobacco packaging materials, factory machineries and spares and others to ensure that they are in line with JTI and Government requirements.
  • Prepare and follow up customs duty documentation with MRA and respective clearing agent
  • Negotiate with MRA on project and other materials tax exemptions and advise management on imports regulations, customs and tariff changes whenever applicable and also manage customs audits.
  • Develop imports procedures, educate stakeholders and vendors on imports requirements.
  • Track and calculate the landed cost of all imported materials, ensuring that the cost is correctly and timely added to respective Purchase Orders and expiditing shipment deliveries to JTI


Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in the relevant field
  • 4-6 years logistics/customs clearance experience, preferably with large multinational organization.
  • Good communication skills – both oral and written and proactively address issues and effect change.
  • Strong analytical skills and organized bility to work in a changing environment with minimum supervision.
