Job Description

Our client in the logistics sector is seeking to recruit for the following positions to be based in Mwanza, Dedza, Blantyre and Lilongwe, Malawi.


Position title: Customs Clearance Agent (3 positions)



Ref: Log/CCC/001



Reports to: Clearing Officer

Location: Mwanza, Dedza, and Blantyre


Basic Function


The Customs Clearance Agent will prepare customs documentation and ensure that shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and / or export of goods. Determine and track duties and taxes payable and process payments on behalf of client. Coordinate transportation and storage of imported goods.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Classify goods according to tariff coding system.
  • Examine product information to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare and process import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, or procedures.
  • Sign documents on behalf of clients, using powers of attorney.
  • Clear goods through customs and to their destinations for clients.
  • Coordinate logistics or other business operations.
  • Calculate duty and tariff payments owed on shipments.
  • Calculate data to inform organizational operations.
  • Update knowledge of legal or regulatory environments.
  • Request or compile necessary import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents.
  • Coordinate regulatory documentation activities.
  • Advise others on legal or regulatory compliance matters.
  • Monitor or trace the location of goods.
  • Monitor inventories of products or materials.
  • Obtain documentation to authorize activities.
  • Post bonds for the products being imported or assist clients in obtaining bonds.
  • Quote duty and tax rates on goods to be imported, based on Government tariffs and excise taxes.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience,
  • Forwarding and Clearing Qualification
  • Strong in computer and financial spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of VAT preparation and filing,
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, excel, outlook, ASYCUDA World
  • Strong Communication Skills,
