ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

Partners In Health (PIH) is a non-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. Through service delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those most in need and to serve as an antidote to despair. PIH has programs in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Liberia, Kazakhstan, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Sierra Leone, Navajo Nation and Boston.

PIH began working in Malawi in 2007, where we support the Ministry of Health (MOH) to serve directly the Neno District, a catchment area of about 140,000 through 14 health centers and two hospitals in partnership with our sister organizations. Now, Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (APZU) continues to accompany implementation of programs to support universal healthcare coverage in Neno District with expansion of this work and support on a national and international level within Malawi and beyond We seek to recruit suitably qualified and experienced candidate for the following position:


Position : Communications Officer



Reports to: Chief Medical Officer

Commitment: Full Time (Monday-Friday)

Working Hours: Regular Office Hours (40Hrs/Week)

Location: Neno District, Malawi


Position Description Overview


The Communications Officer works in collaboration with APZU clinical, operations, human resources,

partnerships and policy development, monitoring, evaluation and research department along with global PIH communications, development and impact teams to support communications through creation of written, digital and electronic content to demonstrate APZU/PIH impact on the health care system. We seek an experienced and energetic person, who is committed to social justice and our platform of health equity, to support APZU evidence generation activities. The Communications Officer will work in a dynamic team environment with a respectful and supportive attitude of colleagues at all levels. The Communications Officer will work closely with clinical, M&E and operations programs to create APZU impact stories of people and programs, manage relationships with communication and social media stakeholders and organizations, press relationships and releases, newsletters and social media posts to promote and market APZU. He/she will serve as the primary contact of PIH communications and marketing team with review and direction by APZU leadership team.


Responsibilities and Duties:


Communications/Public Relations (75%)

  • Find, research and write impact feature stories, news releases and other copy for print, electronic, and online sources for internal and/or external audiences
  • Provide communications and public relations support to internal APZU departments including the writing and editing of print, electronic and online communications and publications
  • Manage institutional social media accounts including the scheduling and posting of frequent content, training staff on platform usage, track account analytics and staying up to date on current trends
  • Create and update one-page informational pamphlets and other promotional items for APZU clinical programs and projects
  • Create and update stock slides and outward facing messages from APZU to PIH and other stakeholders in collaboration with the M&E and research teams
  • Create and distribute electronic marketing emails to targeted mailing
  • Assist HR department with employee e-newsletter
  • Provide promotional and marketing support and collaboration to PIH communications and marketing which may include reporting, taking photographs, hosting key stakeholders and partners, etc

PIH impact works (25%)
  • Work with research fellow to improve use and visual dissemination of programmatic data sets for impact so that information is accessible and shared proactively with the appropriate teams and outward facing stakeholders
  • Work with cross-site Impact Initiative team for coordination of impact reports, data review and cross-site initiatives


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field or equivalent education or experience
  • Detail oriented, ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines with strong understanding of communications, public relations and impact statement concept and procedures
  • Experience in working in the non profit sector in a communications role
  • Excellent ability and proficiency in writing for multiple audiences and in multiple mediums (print, online, social media) with good working knowledge of Associate Press Style
  • Computer literate with strong internet skills with proficiency in Microsoft office – Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and popular social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkenIn, Instagram, etc
  • Oral and written communication skills in Chichewa and English
  • Excellent analytical skills; mature judgment combined with a proactive, energetic approach to problem solving; and confidentiality
  • Ability to work with accuracy and precision with minimum supervision and flexibility
  • Willingness to work with a multidisciplinary team working in a rural, hard-to-reach area
