Job Description

Malawi Red Cross Society is urgently seeking to engage the services of a suitably qualified, motivated, capable and experienced individuals to fill the vacant positions which have arisen tenable at its Head Office in Area 14,Lilongwe . The positions are as follows;


Position: COMMUNICATIONS AND HUMANITARIAN DIPLOMACY OFFICER




Purpose of the Job




The Communications and Humanitarian Diplomacy Officer is responsible for the, planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of communication and Humanitarian Diplomacy plans to promote and support the Malawi Red Cross society’s ‘ mission.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Execution of Communication strategy to get Red Cross’ issues into the public domain, and strengthen political will in support of MRCS’ mission and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationship with Journalists and maintain media database.
  • Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content and social media content that communicates National Societies activities and services.
  • Respond to media inquiries and arrange media coverage.
  • Developing partnerships with individuals, groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
  • Management and maintenance of website and Social Media platforms and ensuring that texts and photographs are always updated.
  • Identifying and monitor sensitive or emerging issues for the Red Cross Divisions and projects.
  • Participating in global advocacy activities and campaigns
  • Identifying advocacy issues for the National Society.
  • Contacting various Donor Partners in promoting the National Society`s visibility.

Educational and Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor`s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism or related field plus 3-5 years relevant professional experience


Requisite knowledge, ability and skills


  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Desktop Publishing software ( in Designing)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
