Job Description

Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi is a locally registered NGO since 1996, with the mission to promote social and economic development by implementing projects within health, education, community development, agriculture and climate change, and fund-raising and programs.

DAPP Malawi is currently seeking to recruit an experienced and dynamic Communications and Promotion Officer to be based at the Lilongwe office.



Position: Communications and Promotion Officer

Job Summary

Be overall responsible for the implementation of DAPP Malawi’s communications and promotion strategy.

Write, edit, coordinate and publish promotion materials in print, digital and online form, including websites and social media in regards to DAPP Malawi’s activities in Malawi.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation of DAPP Malawi’s pro-active promotion and communication strategy
  • Be main producer of promotion materials and key publications including monthly newsletters, annual reports, case studies and specific donor publications.
  • Create and maintain appropriate and consistent language and terminology across publications and media platforms and introduce it to other staff.
  • Develop messages and stories for DAPP Malawi’s development work fit for publication and dissemination through local media houses.
  • Lead a team of two staff who work with communications and promotion.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Communication and promotion related Bachelor degree with at least 3 years’ experience in promotion and communication work – preferable within the NGO sector including media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Excellent knowledge and Experiences in working with the media houses in Malawi in development areas.
  • Excellent command in written and spoken English.
  • Proficient in working with online media – website administration, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube.
  • Proficient in use of all Microsoft and Adobe applications related to the tasks.



Attributes

  • Applicants with a passion for development work and the social change it creates for the people will have an added advantage
  • Ability to work in a team with often times tight deadlines and expeditious work environment.
  • Applicants with graphic design skills will have preference, including command of e.g. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Photoshop, In-design and/or experience in taking quality photos.
  • Ability to work with high integrity and minimum supervision.
