Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Gaming Board/National Lotteries Board (the Board), tenable at its Office Information Systems, Administration, Business/ Finance, Law or in Blantyre.

The successful candidate is expected to report by 1st November 2021.


The Chief Executive Officer shall be responsible to the Board of Directors for the efficient and effective operations of Malawi Gaming Board and National Lotteries Board. The successful candidate shall have overall responsibility for managing and ensuring that the performance of the institution is in line with
policies set by the Board and the Government of Malawi in regulating the gaming and lotteries industries in the country.


The Chief Executive Officer shall be responsible for executing the Board’s Strategic Plan including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Formulating, developing and recommending for Board’s approval policies, plans, strategies and budgets.
  • Providing general oversight of the Board’s activities to ensure that it functions smoothly and efficiently.
  • Directing and guiding all the departments of Malawi Gaming Board in the preparation of strategic and business plans in line with the Board’s vision and mission and Government competitive remuneration package in accordance with its policies.
  • Identifying organization structure changes and staff skill requirements and putting in place required management systems and processes to effectively manage and motivate staff.
  • Engaging stakeholders to the gaming industry and of the certificates, detailed Curriculum Vitae (C.V) with names representing the interests of the Board and / or Government of at various fora as required.
  • Ensuring that the Board operates within an environment with strong internal controls and regulatory oversight that provides revenue assurance and enhances the credibility of the accounting system of the Board.


  • The applicants must possess, as a minimum, a postgraduate qualification at Masters Degree level in Management other equivalent disciplines from recognized institutions.
  • A Bachelors Degree in Management Information Systems, Accountancy, Business Administration, Finance or Law is a must.
  • Candidates should also have at least ten (10) years’ post – qualification experience at senior executive position or corporate management position.

The ideal candidate for the position must, among others:
  • Have a proven track record of managing an organization of commercial enterprise in areas of service delivery, project management, financial accounting and human resources management.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of working with or within a regulatory environment.
  • Be customer focussed, goal driven, action oriented, innovative, a self – starter and team player.
  • Have a strong business acumen and entrepreneurial attitude.
  • Possess strong networking skills to effectively engage with the Board’s stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity, sense of maturity and ability to meet strict deadlines.
