Job Description

Airport Developments Limited (ADL) is a Company fully owned by Government and was incorporated under the English Companies Statutes of 1908 and 1913 which regulated Companies in Malawi before 1986.

ADL is responsible for the management of Kamuzu International Airport and facilitation of smooth, safe and secure movement of air travelers and cargo through provision of world class infrastructure, services and effective management of airports in an environmentally sustainable manner for socio- economic development.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Chief Executive Officer for Airport Development Limited, tenable at its office in Lilongwe. This is a very challenging senior position requiring a mature, astute, and honest person with extensive managerial experience.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To ensure effective implementation of Board decisions and provides the day to day direction of the business of the Company, for the administration, organization and control of all employees in accordance with established policies and procedures as well as relevant laws.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB;

The Chief Executive Officer shall be responsible to the Board of Directors for the efficient and effective operation of ADL. He/she will have overall responsibility for the management of ADL and ensure that ADL’s performance is in line with policies set by the Board and the Government of Malawi. He/she shall have the responsibility of providing leadership in the management of the organization and its resources.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Develop, implement, and integrate the strategic business, financial and operational plans, systems and policies in all operations of the company
  •  Oversee preparation and implementation of the company’s approved annual budget and ensure that variations are minimized and cost for operations are kept as low as possible
  •  Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results consistent with the overall strategy and mission as well as both local and international aviation and general operating regulations and guidelines
  •  Ensure that key airport infrastructure are provided and in good operating condition at all times for the smooth facilitation, safety and security of airline passengers and operators
  •  Take control of the Company’s investment decisions achieve business growth and increased profits
  •  Ensure that airport projects are completed within the specified timelines and budget
  • Ensure adherence to approved budget and financial management regulations and controls
  • Ensure that the company has right numbers of employees properly recruited, remunerated and managed without jeopardizing company survival
  •  Advise the Board and stakeholders on policies needed to further the objectives of the company
  • Liaise and conduct routine contacts with the appropriate Government authorities to discuss, secure advice, guidance, authorization and/or decision on the company’s matters of major importance
  •  Initiate and support development and periodic review of organizational and management structures for assurance of optimal efficiency
  •  Implement Board decisions in an effective and timely manner
  •  Evaluate the performance of the Company in reaching its strategic and business goals and stakeholder expectations; and report to the Board on the same
  •  Prepare and present technical/financial reports and proposals to the Board

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE;

Applicants should have a minimum of Master’s Degree in either Business Administration (MBA) or Finance or Engineering or Economics or Law or Marketing with at least five (5) years working experience at top management level in a private or public organization. Those with aviation or airline experience will have an added advantage.

  •  Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

The successful candidate shall be offered a performance related contract for a period of three (3) years with an attractive salary, benefits and gratuity packages commensurate with seniority of the position and qualifications of the candidate.
