Job Description

St Luke’s College of Nursing and Midwifery is a Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) training institution owned by the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire (UDUS). The College invites applications for the following position:

Position: Catering Supervisor (Grade K)

Reports to: The Deputy College Principal.

Scope of work 

The Catering Supervisor shall take responsibility in the day to day management of the college’s catering services including staff within the department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise food preparation and handling, ensuring food quality and safety
  • Provide on the job orientation for kitchen staff on relevant issues
  • Enforcing college rules and regulations for kitchen management
  • Making calculations for food portioning for cooks to prepare
  • Ensuring cleanliness of the whole kitchen area
  • Facilitating medical examination for food handlers as required
  • Providing technical guidance in the preparation of daily menu.
  • Performing any other duties relevant for the post as advised by the supervisor

Qualifications and Experience
  • Diploma in either of the following; food science and technology, nutrition, home economics, or its equivalent from anyaccredited college.

Requisite Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • A good command of English with very good oral and written communication skills
  • A team worker with good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff
  • Computer literate and good MS Office and internet knowledge
  • Catering and food production experience, ideally in a small to medium contract catering related environment
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • The ability to demonstrate great team work and show the ability to follow instructions and supervise a small team
  • Knowledge of Food Hygiene, basic Health and Safety
