Job Description

CCAP Nkhoma Synod Health Department invites applications from suitably qualified and well experienced applicants for the post of Biomedical Technician (Grade K) tenable at Nkhoma Mission Hospital. This is a three-year (36 months) employment contract subject to renewal based on overall efficiency, conduct and diligence with which the employee is discharging his/her duties as well as the overall performance and availability of funds.

 
Position: Biomedical Technician (Grade K)


Job Purpose
To ensure Hospital Health Equipment are in good working order by installing, maintaining, testing, calibrating and repairing the equipment and where relevant, training the end user on how to operate the Equipment.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensuring that the Biomedical Equipment are in good working order through the following:
 
  •  Conducting preventative and scheduled maintenance regularly.
  •  Developing maintenance guides.
  •  Repairing and troubleshooting breakdowns.
  •  Evaluating service contracts.
  •   Initiating repair processes where external parties are involved.
  •  Operating and performing minor repairs on complex Biomedical Equipment
  •  Diagnosing equipment malfunctions with accuracy and precision.

  •  Participating and collaborating with end users and suppliers in installation of new equipment by ensuring suppliers meet the right standards of installation, adjusting, establishing, testing and calibrating performance of these equipment.
  •  Collaborating with the end users and department heads, to advise on installation of new potential biomedical equipment.
  •  Ensuring that the end users are educated by working with Heads of Departments to create end user awareness on the existing equipment through internal and external training.
  •  Ensuring that an inventory of all Hospital Equipment is constantly updated by tallying existing stock, placing new orders, discarding old Equipment and verifying together with the procurement team the delivery of new equipment.
  •  Preparing reports by using end user data, collected information, trending habits, and using any other relevant information.
  •  Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and policies related to Medical Equipment.
  •  Overseeing the performance of routine mechanical and electrical inspections on the Equipment and to ensure lubrication, inspection and replacement of parts and where necessary, to order and maintain parts and lubricants needed for the plan operation.
  •  Developing preventive maintenance plans for the Equipment and execute adherence.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
  • A. Skills and Personal Qualities
  • Good interpersonal, spoken and written communication skills
  •  Good mechanical aptitude and ability to learn how to evaluate equipment failures.
  •  Critical thinking and complex problem solving.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment drawings, technical data, layouts, specifications, codes and other materials pertinent to Healthcare Equipment.
  •  Precision and attention to detail and technical competence.
  •  Working knowledge of technical requirements, codes and standards associated with the field.
  • High degree of personal integrity.
  •  Must be adept in the use of MS Office 2000 or later, particularly Excel and Word, Internet and email.
  •  Should be familiar with software such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360 or similar.
  •  Candidate must be familiar with implementation and ongoing review of maintenance programs.
  •  Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
  •  Ability to maintain confidential information.

B. Education requirements

  • Applicants should have a minimum of Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology or related field with 3 years’ experience.
  •  Those with Degree in the above field will have an added advantage.
