Job Description

Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. In Malawi, MSF works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the local community in integrated HIV/AIDS in Chiradzulu District and Cervical Cancer projects Blantyre districts.


MSFF is looking for its Blantyre Coordination office:


Position: BIOMEDICAL SPECIALIST



Workplace : Blantyre- Coordination Office


Type of contract : 6 month Fixed term contract with possible extension


Start date : Immediate


Main purpose of the position

The position holder will follow and maintain our all biomedical activity in the country in MSF France projects and coordination, the biomedical Specialist will be the 1st concerned and responsible for the biomedical activity in the mission, to carry out all types of maintenance, inventories, CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) follow up, stock management relevant to biomedical field, active participation in Biomedical international orders for Equipment, spare parts and accessories/ consumables. He/she will be accountable for technical supervision of biomedical technicians across MSF projects.


The Biomed Specialist will be reporting directly to the Logistic Coordinator.


Main responsibilities


1) Maintenance of Biomedical Equipment

  • MSF appropriate Apps and tools follow ups
  • Balance the Maintenance plan Work Orders in Chronogram through MEMO (CMMS)
  • Carry out all types of maintenance through MEMO, integration of new locally purchased devices in MEMO, • Assessment of external service providers in the mission, and close follow up with them for timely response on any intervention needed,
  • Follow up of periodic recertification and calibration of biomedical devices, according to MSF Standards with the consultancy of Regional Technical Referent,
  • Advise medical team/users and Log Managers on user protocols and day to day cleaning, maintenance and disinfections, follow up of daily check lists, etc.
  • Actively inform medical/user on time on status of equipment after maintenance, repairs and outcome of the services 2) Inventories Follow ups
  • Quarterly inventories follow up in MEMO with liaison of log manger in the projects,
  • Report and discussion with Log team in case of any irregularities,
  • Extract the inventory report each quarter and submit it in your quarterly report to the Log coordination and Log in the field, and explain reasons for any devices not recorded in MEMO or missing

3) Spare parts and consumables/accessories management
  • Storekeeping for the biomedical spare parts, and participation in inventory of consumables and accessories in Pharmacy every three months.

4) Technical administration
  • Active participation in budget planning for biomed together with Log Managers, medical staff and Log Coordinator in time for the annual budget preparation
  • To integrate and submitted biomedical budgets in each coordination and project level for spare parts any external service contracts, calibrations
  • Monthly Activity report or by need of supervisor and or specific intervention.


Requirements

  • Education: Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or Associate Diploma in electrical, Diplomas in electricity/electronics,

  • Experience: Previous working experience of at least five years in a similar job; experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable. 

  • Language: Local language and able to speak English

  • Knowledge: Computer Literacy (MS Office, Visio)

  • Competencies: Result –oriented, Team -player, flexible, service- oriented, commitment, People Management,
