Job Description

The National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) whose main objective to ensure security of fuel supply in Malawi is a wholly owned Malawi Government Company established under the Company’s Act of 1984 on the 10th December 2010 and commenced its operation in 2012. NOCMA is responsible tor managing the Country’s million liters Strategic Fuel Reserves situated in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu; and smaller depots in Chilumba, Chipoka and Mchinji.

Over the past eight (8) years, the Company has grown tremendously in its national strategic importance with its fuel importation market share growing from ten percent (10%) in 2015 to an average of sixty percent (60%) in 2019/20 and this has been matched with growth in Institutional capacity and investments to enable efficiency and effectiveness in executing its mandate.

In its drive to censure improved and sustained efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of its mandate. NOCMA is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced candidates to fill various highly rewarding positions that have arisen within the Company.

Job Title : Assistant Audit Officer – Financial



Department: Internal Audit and Risk Management Section


Grade : NOC7


Reporting to : Internal Audit Manager


Responsible for : None


Purpose of the Job :

To provide support in providing internal audit and risk management services.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the development and review of annual Sectional and individual audit plans
  • Reviewing the design of accounting and internal control systems and monitoring their operation by risk assessment and detailed testing
  • Implementing financial audit activities and programs
  • Conducting investigations on any incidents of fraud, theft, forgeries, accidents and other losses and advise remedial measures
  • Reviewing the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of operations
  • Reviewing compliance with the laws, regulations, internal policies and other directives
  • Liaising with external auditors to ensure that internal audit exercises are completed on time and in an efficient manner
  • Assisting in facilitation of risk management training and review of functional/departmental risk registers



Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ practical experience in auditing


Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of internal audit procedures, planning, techniques and methods
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting and auditing systems
  • Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate facts and to reports
  • Professionalism and positive attitude.
  • Good communication skills
  • Prescribes and believes in the Code of Ethics for Internal Auditors.
  • An ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Must be available for extensive travel to all NOCMA Depots
