Job Description

The Sustainable Food Systems for Rural Agriculture Transformation and Resilience  (TRANSFORM) program is coordinated by three Norwegian organizations namely the  Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), the Development Fund of Norway (DF), and Norwegian  University of Life Sciences (NMBU) with funding from the Royal Norwegian Embassy  (RNE).  

The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu-CADECOM is implementing this project in the  districts of Mzimba and Rumphi. The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu-CADECOM is  looking for well-qualified and experienced candidates to fill the vacant position:

POSITIION: Agronomist (1 post) 


REPORTS TO: Project Manager  

Core responsibility:
To ensure that the project activities in the impact site are  delivered on time and with excellent quality in liaison with all stakeholders including  communities, Mzuzu Diocese structures and other development partners 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Mobilize communities in the catchment area. 
  • Facilitate the implementation of drip irrigations under Micro-investment  operation within the project impact area. 
  • Build Capacity for farmer groups (incubators and producer groups) in good  crop husbandry practices, value addition and post-harvest handling for  horticultural value chains. 
  • Facilitate WASH interventions within the project impact area.  
  • Improve income levels through transforming small scale food producers from  subsistence farmers to successful commercial food producers 
  • Ensure Cross-cutting (gender, diversity, HIV and AIDS and environmental) Issues are effectively taken on board in all program  plans and activities. 
  • Increased consumption of nutritious and diverse food 
  • Identify, investigate, verify and document success stories, and lessons  learnt in all project interventions. 
  • Prepare and submit activity, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and other reports Collect required information/data relating to the programme as demanded from  time to time 

  • Develop viable project proposals for CADECOM and the Diocese Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time; 

Education qualifications 

  • Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Irrigation Engineering or similar field required. 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with preferably focusing in the area of  Landscape Management and Restoration, Climate-Smart Agriculture or Agroforestry. 
  • A holder of Motor Cycle Driver’s License is a MUST. This must be attached. 

Other attributes and abilities 

  • Computer literate (MS Office, Excel) 
  • Have strong intra and interpersonal skills 
  • Communicate clearly both when speaking and writing in English
  • Commitment to work in a team and supportive to other team members through  ideas and skills 
  • A committed and practicing Christian.
