Job Description

BACKGROUND

Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi is a local Non-Governmental Organization with over 25 years of experience in the implementation of development projects in the country, with multi-dimensional focus on the Community Development, Education, Agriculture and Health.

DAPP Malawi, with support from the Government of Malawi, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoY&S), is implementing a four (4) months Agri-Preneurial Training Course.

Objectives of the Project

The Jobs for Youth (J4Y) Project seeks to economically empower young women and men (18 to 35 years of age) for improved employability in decent work and sustainable entrepreneurship in Malawi. Specifically, the project is designed to address:

 

  • Lack of entrepreneurship mind-set as well as weaknesses in technical and business skills;
  • Lack of access to markets and information;
  • Lack of access to finance;
  • Weaknesses at the policy and regulatory level for the promotion of youth owned Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs); and
  • Low level of employment of youth by the existing private sector.

 

DAPP Malawi therefore seeks to hire services of qualified individuals for the position of:


 

Position: AGRICULTURE SECTOR EXPERTS (4 positions)



Period: 4 Months


 

Specific Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials on agri-preneurship.
  • Deliver lessons in entrepreneurship in agriculture and agribusiness.
  • Teach incubateson various issues of agri-preneurship as well as the environmental aspects.
  • Integrate research materials in agricultural lesson plans and curriculum.
  • Provide guidance to incubates
  • Teach incubates practical lessons at the farm and animal pens.
  • Ensure the highest standards of teaching in Agri-preneurship.
  • Assess, evaluate and grade incubates’ overall performance and report the same to management.
  • Conduct field visits on agriculture entrepreneurship to incubates in conformance to the J4Y project teaching approach.
  • Be part of a team that aims at transforming the lives of the youth in Malawi
  • Encouraging incubates participation in all school programs and other extra-curricula activities.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned time to time by management.



Qualifications and Attributes

  • Degree in Agricultural sciences, agricultural economics, Agribusiness or equivalent;
  • Postgraduate degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, business administration or commerce will be an added advantage;
  • Must have experience in entrepreneurship training;
  • A strong understanding of the agricultural sector in Malawi, including policy environment; and entrepreneurship issues, challenges, current and emerging opportunities in the sector;
  • At least 5 years of technical work experience in the area of value chain development or agribusiness project development and implementation;
  • Experience with capacity building of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and primary producers in the agriculture sector.
