CARE is an International NGO that works in 95 countries around the world to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice In Malawi, CARE works in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and other local and international partners. CARE International in Malawi has been awarded a cooperative agreement from the U S. Agency for International Development’s Office of Food for Peace (USAID/FFP) in to implement a five-year Development Food Security Activity (DFSA) to improve and sustain the food and nutrition security of vulnerable populations in Zomba and Mangochi Districts

The project will work at the individual, household, community and institutional levels to address the underlying causes of food insecurity and strengthen transformative opportunities. This includes a focus on improving food access and incomes through agriculture and other livelihoods initiatives; enhancing natural resource and environmental management; combating under-nutrition, especially for children under two and pregnant and lactating women; and mitigating disaster impact through early warning and community preparedness activities. The project which will be tailed Titukulane is intended to strengthen resilience in populations vulnerable to acute, chronic hunger and recurrent shocks, stresses and crises, and to reduce future need for ongoing or emergency CARE is working in consortium with Save the Children, Emmanuel International, WaterAid, NASFAM, and IFPRI, as well as other associated organizations

CARE seeks to recruit well qualified staff to fill various vacant positions based in Zomba and Mangochi as follows


Position: Agriculture Coordinator (2 positions)



The Agriculture Coordinator will technically support implementation of all activities aimed at achieving increased stable and equitable incomes from agricultural livelihoods for ultra-poor and chronically vulnerable households, women and youth. S/He will lead on activities which aim at increasing household income for vulnerable households, expand and under irrigation, increase and diversify marketable production, including Farmer Field and Business Schools, Climate & Water Smart Agriculture

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in the implementation of Climate and Water smart approaches
  • Facilitate implementation of Climate and water smart approaches that ensure that agriculture is adapted to Malawi’s more frequent shocks.
  • Facilitate the identification and development of potential sites for small-scale and micro-irrigation.
  • Facilitate training of Farmer Field Business Schools (FIBS) to build farmer capacities to test and adapt new ideas and technologies around water smart sustainable agriculture.
  • Facilitate implementing action plans developed by these multi-stakeholder platforms.
  • Facilitate organization and strengthening of various existing and new farmer collectives, including existing producer groups, associations, cooperatives,
  • Conduct gender-sensitive and inclusive value chain analysis and identify local and international market opportunities.
  • Facilitate horizontal linkages between FFBSs, producer groups, associations and cooperatives and Banks and other investors.
  • Coordinate all reporting of various partners and ensure compliance with established program quality standards
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by his/her supervisor and the CO


Required qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and related fields with at least 2 years of relevant work experience in agriculture and resilience building projects
  • At least 2 years of work experience in supporting building capacity of partners in Climate and Water Smart Agriculture with experience in supervisory role
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in Value Chain Analysis and establishment of Market linkages across a variety of value chains
