Agri-business & Marketing Officer

Job Description

The Sustainable Food Systems for Rural Agriculture Transformation and Resilience  (TRANSFORM) program is coordinated by three Norwegian organizations namely the  Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), the Development Fund of Norway (DF), and Norwegian  University of Life Sciences (NMBU) with funding from the Royal Norwegian Embassy  (RNE).  

The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu-CADECOM is implementing this project in the  districts of Mzimba and Rumphi. The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu-CADECOM is  looking for well-qualified and experienced candidates to fill the vacant position:



POSITION: Agri-business and Marketing Officer (1 position)




GRADE: MD 5 



REPORTING TO: Project Manager 


Core responsibility:
S/he will be responsible for facilitating marketing of different  vegetable value chains across the project impact area under TRANSFROM program  in two districts of Mzimba and Rumphi. 

 

Job Descriptions 

  • Work with key project personnel to develop and conduct participatory market  chain analysis for business opportunities covering different vegetable value  chains. 
  • Identify market networks and outlets and innovative approaches to strengthen  marketing systems and information networking for farmers within local and  national markets. 
  • Facilitate training of farmers clubs (incubators) in marketing of vegetable value  chains and marketing strategy plans 
  • Training farmer clubs on primary value addition for horticultural crops. Facilitate formation of horticulture farmer cooperatives,  
  • Facilitate Market linkages for services providers, input suppliers and buyers  within the vegetable value chains.
  • Conduct trainings on entrepreneurship and enterprise development for farmers  under Micro-Investment. 
  • Facilitate development of business plans for producer groups. 

  • Conduct Participatory Market Research with farmers within the project.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Project Manager from time  to time 



Qualifications and Experience:
 

  • A minimum of Bachelor Degree in Agribusiness/Marketing or related disciplines.
  • Those with experience in marketing of horticultural produce will have an added  advantage.  



Other attributes and abilities 

  • Computer literate (MS Office, Excel) 
  • Have strong intra and interpersonal skills 
  • Communicate clearly both when speaking and writing in English
  • Commitment to work in a team and supportive to other team members through  ideas and skills 
  • A committed and practicing Christian.
