Job Description

The Office of the Director of Public Officers’ Declarations (Directorate) is an independent governance public institution within the Malawi Government established in 2014 under Section 6(1) of the Public Officers (Declaration of Assets, Liabilities and Business Interests) Act. Under the said Act, the Directorate is mandated to administer and manage the public officers’ declaration regime in order to promote public confidence in the public service.

As part of enhancing its human resource capacity in order to fulfil its mandate effectively and efficiently, the Directorate invites applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the vacant position tenable at the Directorate in Lilongwe as follows:

Job Title : Accounts Assistant (Grade M/ODP10)

Reporting to: Assistant Accountant


  • Preparation of payment vouchers.
  • Receiving, processing and filing of accounting documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of cashbook and general ledger.
  • Assist in the preparation of bank reconciliation statements and other ledger reconciliations.
  • Ensuring that all documentation for payments have comprehensive supporting documents (purchase requisitions, LPO, invoices, contracts, etc.) properly authorized and endorsed by respective Heads of Department or line managers.
  • Assist in the maintenance of banking register, vouchers, cheques and creditors’ invoices.
  • Assist in the preparation for audit.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of non-current asset register.
  • Ensuring institutional compliance with statutory regulations such as tax laws, pension obligations, preparation and remittance of monthly income tax deduction to the Malawi Revenue Authority as well as pension liabilities to the pension administrator.
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.


  • Minimum of ICAM PAEC foundation (Knowledge Level) certificate or ICAM ACCA (CAT) Diploma.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar field.


  • High degree of integrity, morality, ethics and professionalism.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Competence in Microsoft excel and other related Microsoft office packages.
  • Familiarity with any other relevant accounting packages.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • An innovative and effective team player.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Ability to comfortably work under pressure and meet deadlines.
