Job Description

Malawi Police Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited is a member owned Financial Cooperative serving Malawi Police, Prison and Immigration Officers in Malawi. The SACCO is an Affiliate of Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (MUSCCO) and was duly registered by the Ministry of Trade and Industries in March 2014. The SACCO is Fully Licensed and regulated by the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM)


The SACCO is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of SACCO ACCOUNTANT.

 

The Accountant will be reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in preparation of annual, quarterly and monthly operational plans and budgets;
  • Check daily postings and transactions and verify cash on hand;
  • Monitor, evaluate and control loan disbursements and repayments to prevent defaults;
  • Maintain the cashbook and reconcile monthly statements, ledgers and member accounts;
  • Prepare matching and cash liquidity reports and monitor deposit maturities for both the SACCO and members;
  • Ensure safe custody of SACCO cheques, cash, passbooks and all controlled stationery;
  • Uphold internal control systems and statutory requirements and recommend improvements to the system;
  • Service SACCO Committee Meetings assigned by the Chief Executive Officer
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for the SACCO
  • Facilitate annual audit activities and inspections; and,
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer from time to time.


Qualifications and experience

  • Candidates must have either a Degree in Accounting or Finance from an academic institution accredited by the National Council for Higher Education or similar internationally recognized authorities. Those with a Bachelor’s Degree plus ACCA qualification will have added advantage
  • At least 5 years’ experience preferably in a financial institution performing similar tasks.
  • Excellent written and oral business communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer proficiency at least in Microsoft suite and Accounting Packages.
  • High degree of integrity.
