Job Description

The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) is a member based business association with membership from all sectors of the Malawi economy. The Confederation’s mission is to advance the interests of businesses in Malawi through representation and provision of value adding services. Its vison is to act as ‘a strong voice and catalyst for local, regional and global competitiveness of its member businesses’.

The Confederation would like to invite applications from ONLY suitably qualified and competitive candidates to fill the following vacancy that has arisen in its Directorates.


Position: ACCOUNTANT






Job Purpose:


The Accountant will be responsible for oversight and implementation of all accounting, procurement, human resources and administration policies of the Confederation. The incumbent will also be responsible for property management and ensure effective resource utilization and risk mitigation. The Accountant, will be reporting directly to the Director Institutional Development and Investments.


Specific roles and responsibilities:


Accounting functions:

  • Coordinate the development of the annual budget in collaboration with Heads of Directorates.
  • Actively undertake budgetary control to ensure that revenue and expenditure is consistent with the budget.
  • Prepare and accurately analyze monthly and quarterly Management Accounts highlighting and explaining variances to aid decision-making.
  • Manage cash flow of the Confederation and investment of excess liquidity.
  • Monitor the risk exposure of the Confederation and recommend risk mitigation measures.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and ensure timely annual audit of the statements.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement and other specific accounting and reporting requirements for donor funded projects.
  • Prepare financial reports for donor funded projects in compliance with project agreements.


Human Resources functions:

  • Prepare comprehensive quarterly Human Resources Management Report covering all key HRM metrics.
  • Provide management and staff with accurate and knowledgeable advice on human resources matters.
  • Support Directorates with semi-annual performance appraisals and merit processes.
  • Oversee the maintenance of staff records including leave register.
  • Manage all staff payroll related transactions.


Administration and Property Management Functions

  • Maintain property, offices and equipment in tenantable and usable state.
  • Acquire and negotiate insurance covers for the Confederation’s insurable property.
  • Manage and update the Assets Register.
  • Manage and supervise the work of staff under him/her.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.


Skills/Qualifications:


  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or its equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Ability to work with minimum Supervision
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical ability
