Job Purpose


The Personal Banker – Agri Lending will play a key role in supporting the growth and sustainability of agricultural enterprises by offering tailored financial solutions that meet the needs of farmers, agribusinesses, and rural communities. The role involves evaluating loan applications, assessing creditworthiness, managing portfolio quality, and developing financial packages to support investment in agriculture. Additionally, the role requires advisory support on economic and agricultural trends, helping clients navigate financial challenges such as weather fluctuations, production costs, and market changes.

Business Growth and Relationship Management

 1. Business Growth

 • Develop and implement action plans for the agricultural loan portfolio to enhance growth and profitability.

 • Participate in sales campaigns, promotions, and marketing initiatives to achieve business targets.

 • Stay updated with agricultural market trends and economic conditions.

 • Build and maintain strong relationships with local farmers and agribusinesses, providing financial advice and support.

 • Work closely with other departments (e.g., Retail and Corporate Banking) to ensure cross-selling of banking products and provide comprehensive solutions to customers.

 • Conduct customer visits and financial literacy programs to educate clients on available banking services.

 2. Credit Analysis and Lending

 • Assess loan applications, conduct due diligence, and evaluate creditworthiness of agricultural clients.

 • Structure customized financial packages to support investment in agriculture.

 • Ensure all lending processes comply with credit policies and risk management frameworks.

 • Monitor client performance and provide advisory services to help mitigate financial risks.

 3. Portfolio Management

 • Maintain a high-quality loan portfolio through effective monitoring and risk assessment.

 • Follow up on loan repayments, manage arrears, and implement recovery strategies for delinquent loans.

 • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and identify areas for improvement.

 • Ensure compliance with all banking policies, regulations, and risk management protocols.


Compliance and Risk Management

 • Identify and assess risks in the agriculture sector and other related business sectors.

 • Maintain a strong credit control system to minimize exposure to financial risk.

 • Ensure compliance with lending regulations and reporting requirements.

 • Prepare and submit regular portfolio reports for performance tracking and improvement.


Ensuring Timely Repayments

 • Work closely with partner organizations, cooperatives, and VSLAs to facilitate loan repayment.

 • Educate borrowers on financial management, loan repayment plans, and risk mitigation strategies.

 • Implement collection strategies for delinquent accounts.


Knowledge and Skills Required

 • Strong understanding of agriculture and agribusiness finance.

 • Knowledge of agricultural markets, trends, and financial needs.

 • Ability to analyze financial statements and assess credit risk.

 • Strong negotiation and communication skills.

 • Attention to detail and ability to interpret financial data.

 • Strong customer relationship management skills.

 • Good knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements.

 • Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.


Qualifications and Experience

 • A degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, Agriculture, or a related field.

 • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

 • Experience in agriculture lending, banking, credit analysis, or related fields is an added advantage.

 • Knowledge of banking products and services.

 • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

 • Experience working in agricultural markets or rural banking sectors is preferred.

 • A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.
